I watch the Olympics for one thing and one thing only, to see the best athletes compete on the world stage. In other words, for the same reason I watch any sporting event. As its (now revised to four words) motto reads, “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter or Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together in English.” The Olympics never seem to be without some sort of controversy but the current 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing are unique as the West, led by America and its “free” press, have ratcheted up their propaganda machine to epic proportions.
It all started with the US and their “diplomatic boycott” of the Beijing 2022 Games announced by President Biden in December. As Time puts it, “How the U.S. Boycott of the Beijing Olympics Is Splitting the World.” To be clear, this so-called diplomatic boycott means that the countries aren’t sending government officials to the games but their athletes are still going (in other words, its an empty gesture). So how many countries are on the bandwagon with America in even this limited fashion that would lead Time to declare that its “splitting the world?” As the BBC reports, “The US, UK and Canada declared a diplomatic boycott, along with India, Australia, Lithuania, Kosovo, Belgium, Denmark and Estonia… New Zealand, Austria, Slovenia, Sweden and the Netherlands are not sending government representatives, but say Covid is their reason.” So other than the usual “five-eyes” English speaking countries (less New Zealand as is typical these days) plus literally a handful of small European countries most people couldn’t find on a map (India sent a total of one athlete to the Winter Games), the other 81 of 91 countries have chosen not to side with the American “boycott”, not even this limited watered-down one.
Thus it became more important for the Western media hacks to do everything in their power to re-write the narrative about how bad and evil China is. Do a quick Google of something as innocent as “Beijing Olympic Phones” and all your top search results will return something similar to this CNN article that proclaims “FBI urges Olympic athletes to leave personal phones at home ahead of Beijing games“; or this BBC one that say “Winter Olympics: Athletes advised to use burner phones in Beijing“. “The FBI is urging Olympic athletes to leave their personal cell phones at home and instead take burner phones to the Beijing Winter Olympics this month, citing the potential for ‘malicious cyber activities.'”
The problem with narrative is that athletes don’t need to bring their personal phones let along buy a “burner phone” with their own money because each and every one of them gets a fancy new Samsung smart phone for free when they get to the Olympic Village in Beijing. You can check Samsung and the IOC’s own Olympic website which gives detailed instructions on where athletes can pick up their free phone that is, “The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Olympic and Paralympic Edition smartphone will be the first foldable mobile phone distributed to participants at the Games” and retails in Canada somewhere north of C$1000.
Oh, but the propaganda doesn’t end there. We have numerous stories like this in the NY Post, “Olympians in tears over poor living conditions, lack of food at Winter Games“. “Complaints from athletes and officials are pouring in about the alleged poor living conditions, dining options, isolating rooms, and debilitating weather conditions, according to social media posts.”
Let start with the food, quoting German Skiing coach Christian Schwaiger “The catering is extremely questionable because really it’s not catering at all. I’d have expected that the Olympic Committee would be capable of providing hot meals. There are no hot meals. There are crisps, some nuts and chocolate and nothing else. This shows a lack of focus on high-performance sport.” “Some had come prepared and the USA team had the foresight to bring along camping food – like bags of pasta – that needed hot water to make a meal.”
But then we have legendary American snow boarder Shaun White who has this to say on his own personal social media account about the food.
Then we have the artificial snow scandal with Time again positing, “Why Artificial Snow in Beijing is Bad for the Winter Olympics.” “One-hundred percent of the snow that athletes at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are competing on is artificial—pumped out by high-powered snow machines, rather than produced by Mother Nature. The lack of natural snow is a first for the Winter Games—though it’s hardly an anomaly. Artificial snow was first used at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, but it has been growing in prevalence in the most recent Games. About 80% of the snow used in Sochi, Russia in 2014 was artificial, and that number went as high as 98% for the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea in 2018.” For those that have difficulty with math, there is little difference between 98% and 100% but then when a big snowstorm does hit in the middle of the Olympic Games as it actually did, you get this garbage news report from Yahoo Sports, “Snow finally falls on Beijing Winter Olympics — and that’s a problem for snow events“. Enough of the keyboard athletes, lets see what the American athletes have to say:
And another American describing her room and the facilities at the Olympics.
You will start to notice all the Chinese subtitles and watermarks because all this stuff is virtually impossible to find in the Western media coverage and I had to lift it from Chinese social media sites.
Finally, we have this great report from the SCMP, “Winter Olympics: US skier says Twitter account suspended after he praised Beijing Games“. “Three-time Olympian Aaron Blunck said he was suspended from Twitter after he and his US ski teammates praised China for its “stellar” operations at the Olympic Village…. “They have honestly done a stellar job with the whole Covid protocol,” the 25-year-old told reporters in the press room, before criticising biased coverage of the Games. “I didn’t really know what to expect, being stateside you’ve kind of heard some pretty bad media, and that is completely false – it’s actually been phenomenal.”” You can watch his comments yourself in the clip below. I personally am not sure if his suspended Twitter account had anything to do with his comments but my real point is that it is pretty hard for you to find videos or comments like his anywhere in the Western media in their reporting on the Beijing Olympics. While China’s media may be state controlled propaganda, at least I know it for what it is; as opposed to our media which purports to be free and impartial but ends up being pawns of their own propaganda narrative anyway.
